Atelier Dionysiou sits in a classic Athens apartment building with a lift, on the quiet edge where residential Neapoli meets the cafés, bookshops and galleries of Exarchia. This is a lived-in part of the city rather than a tourist district, and guests say that is what they come back for.
The restoration kept the bones of the place: high ceilings, long hallways, parquet floors. Onto them were layered marble in the kitchen and bathrooms, a clawfoot bath, curated artwork and furniture that mixes vintage finds with new design. Each room has its own character and its own air conditioning.
Four bedrooms, two with queen beds and two with twin singles, let a group of eight spread out without crowding the living space. Dining and lounging open onto balconies on more than one side of the building, where morning coffee and late conversations have a habit of running on.
Everything is walkable. The National Archaeological Museum and Lycabettus Hill are close, the Saturday market on Kallidromiou is a few minutes away, and the Acropolis and Plaka are a pleasant walk or a short taxi ride.
